The Race
A young, idealistic Huntington’s Disease researcher comes face-to-face with three generations of a family devastated by the fatal, incurable disease she studies.
For the scientist, who has never met anyone with Huntington’s Disease, the stakes of her research become real. For a Huntington’s Disease patient at the center of the story who is watching her mother sicken, fearing her own demise, and afraid for her two kids, it’s a mother’s plea - and a race against time.
The goal was to create a short film that lands the connection between researcher and patient. That relationship is usually anonymous and not reflective of the life-and-death stakes that truly hang in the balance of disease research. On one side, you have scientists toiling away for years on end in relative obscurity. On the other, you have mothers, fathers, children, grandmother, suffering and living in fear of suffering, who are hoping every day for treatments or cures. We wanted to bring them together so the scientists can connect with the meaning of their work and so patients see the army of brilliant, big-hearted people working to save them.
